Drive Hope Foundation is a nonprofit founded by recording artist Malina Moye and filmmaker Marc Fusco in order to empower, fuel the passion, and open the minds of underserved youth who don’t have access or resources to consider a career outside of their own difficult circumstances. For example, in November, we gathered kids from all walks of life and put together the talented Drive Hope youth choir to perform with Stevie Wonder at Stevie’s House Full of Toys benefit concert at the Microsoft Theater (watch the inspiring performance here, and wait for Stevie!). Not only did the kids have an experience of a lifetime, but because the music programs have been discontinued in many of their schools, they were able, for the first time, to be a part of something bigger than themselves. It taught them to work with others, show leadership, listen and harmonize with each other, and work hard. And to give them an edge, they can now officially add their involvement in a choir to answer a frequently asked question in college applications when applying. All this backed up with a a Certificate of Recognition they received by California Assemblywoman Patty Lopez for their participation and hard work.

Hope Chats

Hope Chats are like TED Talks for under served youth. Every month, Drive Hope will invite 50 teens who have interest in certain areas to listen and interact with inspiring professionals from various fields of interest. Drive Hope will record on video and produce short segments from each speaker (broken down into subtopics) and post them online as educational tools that will continue to inspire, empower, and reach thousands of youth around the world.

Hope Chats Career Program focuses on the following fields: writing, web design, graphic arts, photography, culinary arts, building (engineering), automotive design, music and film production, animation, acting, and entrepreneurship to name a few.   After the Hope Chats are finished and posted online, there will be opportunity to follow up with the experts in all fields represented. Drive Hope is already creating a network of mentors who will be available for teens who are inspired to pursue their dream career.

We need your tax-deductible support/donation because:

1) Each Hope Chat has costs, which include: securing a clean and safe venue with all the proper personnel, bringing in a professional video production crew, providing guest speaker transportation, nominal marketing costs to spread the word, and gift bags for the kids.

2) The Drive Hope Youth Choir is now being asked to perform at other major events around the country and we need funds for transportation, food, lodging, and rehearsals. The youth choir is a great way Drive Hope can spread the mission with music.

3) We are actively recruiting local organizers in several cities starting in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Philadelphia to establish roots in underserved communities most affected by poverty and lack of resources.

“It’s important to educate and show struggling teenagers what’s available to them. If not, they may only choose the limited options they see on their own street. Giving a young person the license to think big is a valuable thing. It means the world. It is the world!”
